How Would You Wear This: Thakoon Fall 2006 Burgundy Paint Print Silk Top

I was flipping through an old US Vogue from May 2006 and came across the exact outfit, seen in the above runway pic, in an editorial titled "Short Stories" shot by photographer David Sims. (In the shoot, model Caroline Trentini is wearing it with flat silver Balenciaga sandals.)

I have the same top in my wardrobe and I've only worn it once: paired with a full, short Marni skirt in a heavy, wine-colored silk. I do adore this top, though. The print really looks as if Thakoon Panichgul himself took a paintbrush saturated with wet, scarlet paint and applied it onto the silk in broad strokes.

Maybe I will try wearing it with a black structured silk Prada skirt that is short and full with wide pleats + black opaque tights + YSL Tribute Too pumps. Any other ideas out there? I could use some fresh perspective on this one!

  1. Gorgeous top. I would team this up with white or cream coloured pleated and cuffed shorts and a cream coloured belt over the top. I would also choose a mailman's bag and wedge gladiators.

  2. This is such a wonderful rich red. You can do a lot with it, though because it's a statement piece on its own. Try:

    (1) Pairing it with cuffed full pants (my new favorite look)

    (2) With a pair of breezy neutral shorts for summer and a pair of metallic sandals

    (3) With a full navy skirt (red white and blue I know) and towering wedge heels and a chunky necklace

    (4) With a pair of skinny jeans and bold white or off-white sandals

The possibilities are endless. What a beautiful blog you have going here!

  3. That's a gorgeous top. I would be super boring and pair it with jeans + heels, but just because I wouldn't want to distract from it!

  4. I would definitely go for harem-looking pants. It'd be loose and comfortable all day. =]
